Welcome everyone. Regnat Populus is pleased you made a little stop by our web pages. We're an old guild in the World of Warcraft and these pages are all about RP and the things we do.  RP members interested in contributing to the web site should contact Thorag.

August 31st, 2009: Effective Immediately: RP is ceasing raiding

This notice is to announce the cessation of raiding activity for Regnat Populus.  We’d like to thank all of our previous and current raiders for being with us; RP will continue as a casual guild in World of Warcraft for the time being.

RP has been a raiding guild since the early days of Molten Core. We’ve accomplished a lot over the years.  We’ve had lots of good times and bad times. Recent turnover has been difficult to manage however, and for a number of reasons, the officers do not wish to continue managing raids.

My Thoughts

For myself, there are two huge negative things about raiding that have significantly detracted from the enjoyment of dungeons to the point that I no longer wish to pursue the management of this activity.

“Single Point of Failure” dungeon encounters are a massive thorn in the side of any group of raiders. Gorefiend, Archimonde, Yogg Saron etc … all come to mind. These are boss encounters that usually cause failure when just one person makes a critical error.  It’s a guild management problem. As soon as you have one person who for any reason is incapable of managing the difficulty of the encounter, the repeated wipes quickly start to cause strife centered around the pressure to exclude them from the raid.  We just cannot accept anymore the emotional drama of building a raiding guild around encounters such as these.

Gear obsolescence along with the time investment required for success is the second point to raise.  Ever since BC, gear itemization has become nothing but programmed obsolescence: a built in depreciation that removes any sense of longevity in the game.  Simply put, if you’re going to have strong equipment depreciation, you can’t then require a significant time investment requirement to obtain it. This makes zero economic sense.   This design effectively borrows deeply into player moral and interest in the game. RP has finally had enough. We lasted longer than most at raiding because we enjoyed the company, but our latest hardships combined with the absurd itemization of the game has finally bankrupted our will to keep going.

Conclusion

We intend to continue as a guild and maintain past and present contacts; despite the rather disappointing ending to raiding, we maintain satisfaction in our many accomplishments.

Raiding

August 11th, 2009 - 25 man

RP defeats Lord Jaraxxus, the second boss in the Trial of the Crusader 25 man. He was quite a bit of fun. We're looking forward to the new boss next week now. Good work everyone.

Lord Jaraxxus doesn't make it passed round 1

June 30th, 2009 - 10 man. Regnat Populus has now defeated the Flame Leviathan with four towers up. Congratulations to the team for a great win. It took a lot of perseverance and effort.

Flame Leviathan Fails ... with all four towers still UP!

June 27th, 2009 - 25 man. Regnat Populus has now defeated General Vezax. It was a tough fight; we revamped the strategy a few times before finally killing him at the end of the raid. What a great moment! Then, we came to Yogg Saron and made great strides to learning phase 1 of the encounter. Great work RP!

The General Fails at countering RP

June 13th, 2009 - 25 man. Regnat Populus has learnt and mastered the Mirmiron encounter in one day. We had a blast today working through the various phases. It was difficult at first getting past phase 2, but we prevailed in the end with a phase 2 that saw no deaths.  The final phase was close, but the raid held together and beat the boss.

RP Defeats Mirmiron -- now he'll work for us

June 8th, 2009- 25 man. Regnat Populus has now mastered Thorim in Ulduar 25 man. We're looking forward to learning Mirmiron next! You might notice Thorim has shaved.  His lightening attacks were quite the kick in the pants.

Thorim meets RP and agrees with us ... after a little persuasion

May 31st ,2009- 25 man. Regnat Populus is pleased to announce we've progressed passed two new bosses in Ulduar today. Starting with Freya, we finally mastered her encounter with a solid victory. Congratulations to everyone involved for the awesome work and performance.

Freya discovers it's better to be nice to RP
Freya, first kill
Freya first inner

And the after Freya, the guild promptly moved on to Hodir and defeated him for the first time too! What an excellent day for Regnat Populus.

We've been busy raiding hard. The guild is beginning to progress very well and is currently at Yogg Saron in Ulduar 10 man and has seven bosses killed in Ulduar 25man.

The general is a pretty tough boss for mana users. Of note, he has an attack that he uses every 10 seconds that melee must interrupt and an aura that prevents all forms of mana regeneration. He also has a powerup during which the tank has to kite him or die.  Annitawu built a set of gear specifically for this bosses and comes in clocking at 30k mana.

We're happy to say that we have him mastered on 10-man now.

 The general is dead.
